MANILA, Philippines – Rodolfo Espino, Jr. dropped out of school because his parents could not afford to pay his school fees anymore. Yet, he did not lose hope.

Rodolfo, or Ato, to his friends in Dampol, Pulilan, Bulacan, is the 2010 Idol ng TESDA awardee of Region III.

After dropping out of college, Ato decided to enroll in a one-month course in cell phone repair offered by TESDA Bulacan under its community-based training program. He immediately practiced his newly-acquired skills in a small shop in Pulilan.

Eventually, he put up his own shop with the help of his parents. Because of his excellent workmanship and quality servicing jobs, his clientele grew and his reputation as a cell phone repair expert spread far and wide.

Today, Ato is a proud owner of two cell phone repair shops in his hometown.

GOLD MEDALIST

Ato’s expertise and high level of skills was first put to a test during the Bulacan Provincial Skills Competition in 2007 where he won the gold medal.

Ato’s expertise did not escape notice and recognition from fellow technicians here and abroad. In the Philippines, he is one of the moderators of the internet forum, gsmsandwich.com.ph, an exclusive website for Filipino cell phone repair technicians.

In the international website www.level5team.com, Ato is popularly referred to as the Level 5 Technician in the group.

Ato also took two other courses in TESDA Bulacan, such as consumer electronics and computer hardware Servicing. A certified worker and trainor, he is being tapped by TESDA Bulacan as community-based trainor and assessor. He is also an instructor in Cell Phone Repair, Electronics Servicing, and Computer Hardware Servicing at the ATEC Training Center in Guiguinto.

Ato also has four other National Certificates (NCs I-IV), making him an accredited assessor of TESDA Bulacan.

In March 2010, he received the Gintong Kabataang Manggagawa (Skilled Worker) Award from the Bulacan Gintong Kabataan Awards (GKA).
